AISEOLAS is a supplementary application to OIDE
The staff of Col. Lurgan access student audios via AISEOLAS where they can listen to / assess / leave constructive comment regarding the student recordings.
Usernames & passwords are managed by OIDE admin.
Feedback on student audio. A central feature of OIDE is that is allows tutors to evaluate learner audios and give verbal feedback (optional) on each recording. The tutor’s goal is to advise learners on how to improve their pronunciation, intonation, rhythm & flow. This value of this feedback is reliant on learners’ recordings their best efforts, as tutors can tailor recommendations accordingly. Giving feedback on lacklustre attempts fails to address the true “situation” and is an opportunity lost.
Parental / Guardian Access Parents / guardians can login to OIDE and listen back to recording tasks that have been completed or evaluated.
While, students quickly forget things that they merely listen to, practicing aloud, roleplaying, emphasising intonation pronunciation & rhythm flow helps retention and understanding.
However, the key to proficiency is to actively incorporate newly acquired skills into informal social interaction i.e. chit chat. Put simply – “Use it or lose it”
Recording your own voice is long recognised as being a highly effective method of supporting language acquisition. It also requires that learners practice in a particular way – listening intently to original audio / making a wholehearted attempt at mimicking the original recording / listening back / rerecording audio a number of times. Imitating native speaker audio as precisely as you can is the best thing you can do to program your pronunciation.
