About ERASA

ERASA (Endurance Ride Association of South Africa) was founded in 1974 by riders from all over South Africa who shared the same passion.
Endurance Riding can be likened to marathon running, except that this is a unique team of horse and rider. Taking on the rough elements of a varied South African landscape, this team experiences the wild nature of riding in all kinds of conditions, testing their speed, agility, stamina and will to win. Strength, determination, patience, and persistence are all needed to achieve in this sport – there is nothing delicate about Endurance.
Many endurance rides are held throughout South Africa during the endurance year and our main National and International rides are

South African International Challenge.

This takes place once a year and hosts distances of 80km 120km and 160km ridden in one day.

Fauresmith National Championship.

This event is held in July of each year, the distance is 206km ridden over three days.
This event was started in 1974 with 27 horses competing and has grown immensely over the past years.
