Between the Šariš Highlands and the Čergov Mountains, on the upper course of the Torysa River, lies the town of Lipany (Sabinov district). It is currently home to over 6,000 people and a catchment area for 25,000 people. It represents the cultural - administrative center of the northern part of the Upper Silesian region.
