Promote a cultural infrastructure at the service of the territory
The UniCivitas Sapienza in-form the city project, promoted by students of the course in Museum Communication, Technology and Management of Cultural Heritage conducted by Professor Maurizio Quagliuolo in the 2019-20 academic year, aims to demonstrate that the University of Rome Sapienza in as a historical university it can stimulate the creation of a "cultural infrastructure" that helps "a balanced and quality development through a footprint that invites the various services of a Smart City". By "cultural infrastructure" we mean the set of services put in place for the production and dissemination of culture within a given area. It creates an organized network of activities and initiatives that permeates the urban fabric, to become part of the life of citizens, in dialogue with other infrastructures. Sapienza University has been present in different locations and neighborhoods in Rome for over seven centuries. According to a conceptual path, four exemplary cases have been identified: Sant’Ivo alla Sapienza as a historical site, custodian of the cultural memory of the University; San Pietro in Vincoli, as a bridge between past and present; the Faculty of Architecture of Valle Giulia for its historical, social value and for its proximity to other cultural institutions; finally, the University City, "city within the city", the beating and living heart of the University. Sapienza offers outdoor spaces that can be experienced by everyone as places of social gathering. There is the opportunity to freely follow university courses, participate in conferences and seminars. The University allows free use of library services and the museum center, as well as collaborating with other infrastructures such as the Policlinico Umberto I. UniCivitas. Sapienza in-forma the city creates a bridge between Sapienza's "cultural infrastructure" and the city area, looking for points of contact and discontinuities with other urban infrastructures.
