Scientific name
Its scientific name means: do (Greek) spores = seed, seeds; and phila, philos = friend, one who likes; and do (French) bouvreuil = French word to identify songbirds similar in shape to the bullfinch. ⇒ White-winged or (Ave) that likes seeds (similar to a Bullfinch).

Characteristics
Measures about 10cm in length. The male is generally cinnamon in color with a black cap, wings and tail and the female is olive-brown above and yellowish-white below. The female caboclinhos in general are very similar to each other, making it difficult to identify each species and allowing miscegenation. Juveniles have the same coloration as females.
