According to estimates made by different government institutions, 5 million cases of epilepsy are diagnosed annually around the world, and about 80% of the cases live in low-income countries, in which there is little access to adequate treatments for the condition. Therefore, although we cannot solve this situation, we decided to at least facilitate accessibility to the common population with our new application, Helping EP.
Helping EP is a new mainly informative application which is designed for those people with epilepsy, as well as those close to a patient. Our mission as a team is to allow people to access, in a safe and practical way, scientific information (referring to a little more detailed and specific information about the disease), as well as emergency information, in the event of meeting someone in such a situation. We are also developing a panic or emergency button, which alerts the specialized medical emergency service in cases of epilepsy to facilitate their prompt mobilization and save the patient's life in the event of precarious situations.
Our first objective as a team is to ensure that people close to someone with a case of epilepsy know how to act in an emergency, as well as increase literacy on this very important matter, since, according to WHO data, it currently affects approximately 50 million people; a number large enough to take seriously, if you ask us. And our second objective, but no less important, is that the patients themselves can stay informed of their own condition with both our reliable database and our news board.
The vision we have as a team is to be able to achieve a society in which epilepsy takes as few lives as possible thanks to the fact that everyone is properly informed and prepared to act in an emergency situation of this nature.
We hope they download our application and learn correctly what epilepsy is and how to help others if they meet someone who suffers from it, or help themselves, if they are patients.
