If the seller (e.g. on classified ads) wants "friends and family" to save on fees, but you don't want to forego "buyer protection"!

With PayPal, the buyer protection fees are automatically deducted from the amount sent to the seller. However, some sellers do not want to pay the fees for this. This is often the case with private sellers on classifieds portals. If you still want to use PayPal's buyer protection, you have to pay these fees as a buyer and send the final price of the goods plus the PayPal fees. Since the PP fees have a fixed and a variable component, there is this app that does the calculation.

The seller wants €150 for the PS4. If you transfer the with buyer protection, the seller "only" has €145.91. PayPal keeps the rest as a fee.
In the app you enter the 150 € as the final amount and it calculates that you have to transfer 154.19 € so that the seller gets paid 150 € after fees.
