About DomQuartier Salzburg

"Without music there would be void" (W. A. Mozart)

With the state rooms of the Residenz and the cathedral area, the DomQuartier Salzburg has valuable original musical venues. The prince-archbishop court musicians, among them Heinrich Ignaz Franz Biber, Georg Muffat, father and son Mozart or Michael Haydn, composed for these premises and made their own music, they were their immediate professional sphere of activity. In the DomQuartier you are close to W.A. Mozart like you are almost nowhere else in Salzburg!

The Musik_App allows you an exclusive voyage of discovery through two centuries of Salzburg music history at the original locations - from the era of Prince Archbishop Wolf Dietrich von Raitenau (1587-1617) to the secularisation of the archbishopric in 1803.

The archiepiscopal court of Salzburg was at times one of the most important musical centers in Europe and the primary concern of this app is to communicate this liveliness at the court of the Salzburg prince archbishops. Especially in the 17th and 18th centuries, there was a fantastic flowering with a court orchestra, which was equally responsible for secular and sacred music. The archiepiscopal court was therefore the center of cultural life until the end of the eighteenth century, when the Salzburg music history of this epoch took place.

Music played a major role at the court of the Salzburg prince archbishops in the repraesentatio majestatis and was an integral and indispensable part of the orchestration. Thus, the "musica" had an important function within the courtly representation apparatus and was permanently integrated into the court ceremonial.

You will get exciting background information and above all you will hear the music of the court composers exactly where they once sounded. This opens up a special museum experience for you, the DomQuartier tour gives you a unique interplay of 1300 years of power, art, music and architecture.
