Cyber-bullying is a public problem whose scope is now widely recognized in Wallonia-Brussels and which is the subject of the greatest attention from the authorities. Many teenagers are facing today and the characteristics of this magnitude phenomenon requiring urgent and appropriate response.
In this context, an extensive pilot project was launched in Mons and the Borinage in 2015. Having to field study 11 high schools in the Mons-Borinage region, 1518 students from these schools participated in a comprehensive survey to determine the needs and the foundations of a response in line with their expectations. The logic behind this vast investigation was indeed to question the audience as part of the construction of a response to the public issue made by cyber-harassment.
To do this, a quantitative questionnaire was developed by the University of Mons, in order to give this study a scientific framework. Based on the results, we want to offer a complete and coherent solution, we evaluate the results continuously, based on its application to the territory of the Mons-Borinage region.
The application "CYBERHELP" constitutes an element of the overall framework lute against cyber-harassment. First, it allows teens to alert resource persons on issues related to cyber-harassment. It also allows them to learn about this subject and the risky use of ICT in general. She finally moved also in prevention platform, for timely communication when necessary. It will replace any listening and prevention as key to the fight against the phenomenon of cyber-harassment.
This project was of course led with many partners.
In addition to the City's Prevention Service of Mons, with which the project is completed, the various stakeholders are "Inforjeunes Mons" and the Microsoft Innovation Center in Mons and the University of Mons.
