It was published in 1963 in Beirut. The novel describes the effects of the Nakba in 1948 on the Palestinian people through four models from different generations. It presents the Palestinian in the form of a refugee, which is the formula that Ghassan Kanafani develops in his next two novels, “What is left for you,” where he presents the Palestinian / guerrilla, and “Returning to Haifa,” where The Palestinian/rebel presents, in line with the development of the Palestinian cause itself.
