The Icon Nordestino app's main objective is to give visibility to the history of Northeastern citizens, telling their challenges and victories throughout their lives. Therefore, people are the basis of this project. Hearing reports, understanding them and making them have a wide reach is our mission. Recognizing the value of a people who struggle daily to overcome the prejudice of origin, when they live outside the Northeast, and despite that they have built a successful life, is important to offer great examples for the children of this region and this country.
In the universe of arts, literature and intellectuals, great names from the Northeast have already been recognized, such as Maria Quitéria, Luiz Gonzaga, Rachel de Queiroz, Ruy Barbosa, Jorge Amado, Caetano Veloso and many others - albeit belatedly, after having suffered prejudice throughout their careers. But you don't have to go far, beside us there are great stories of family members or close people who are victorious for having left their land of origin, rebuilt their lives in a new state, suffered from xenophobia (prejudice against those who come from another place , region or country) and despite everything, they had great achievements and glories.
Telling these stories is a commitment, and a debt, to our country. Showing our people that there is sweat and work of northeastern people in the construction of every corner of Brazil is a way of thanking these heroes and actively fighting the backward perception of those who think they are superior.
In addition, this project proposes to build a more solid strengthening network among the Northeastern community, enabling the visibility of other people who have gone through similar situations and who understand each other in this struggle. Taking these stories to our community is of paramount importance if we want to build a different future and a better country for generations to come.
