The main objective of the PELD-ELPA is to support public policies that improve the environmental and socioeconomic quality of the region, based on the understanding of the changes that take place in the environment of the Cassino estuary and beach, in the short, medium and long term, relating to the climate phenomena and human action.
A group composed of several researchers from the Oceanography Institute of the Federal University of Rio Grande (IO / FURG), which has been developing the Long Term Ecological Research Program (PELD) since 1998, its first edition in Brazil. The program is funded by CNPq, and our research is carried out at Site 8, the Lagoa dos Patos Estuary and the Adjacent Coast (ELPA), which is why we are called PELD-ELPA. Since it started, the data obtained in the scope of the PELD-ELPA complement a series of data that has been obtained since the 70's, integrating 40 years of research in the estuary.
