How do you even begin to pray if you have little or no experience in it?

Cast off wrong thoughts.

The Bible tells us to destroy false thoughts and captivate all thought in obedience to Christ (see 2 Corinthians 10.5 NIV). For me personally, it helps when I talk to Jesus throughout the day about everything I do and what moves me. In this way, looking at him, I can control the direction of my thinking.
Start with 5 minutes

If you're new to praying, five minutes seems awfully long. It's similar to a stranger you're supposed to talk to for five minutes.

But if God has become a real friend to you, then you won't get by with five minutes for a long time. Then you will want to be with God every morning and evening to discuss everything with Him, to think about everything. In Him you will find healing from the wounds of the day, light for new troubles and peace for a good night's sleep.
start praying

God is a great magnet. Once you get close to him, he will pull you closer and closer. Because he loves you. Begin with an "Our Father" daily, think it through, pray it honestly, contemplate, examining your conscience, flee from Him no more. One day you will realize that you need a fixed time that you take off for yourself and God.

Then you will also find a more solid prayer program that is particularly close to your heart:

The Rosary, the Bible, free prayer, praise - God will guide you. But you start!

Does prayer already have a fixed place in your daily routine?

Mother Teresa said: "If one fails or loses his vocation, it can also be because he has neglected prayer. Prayer is the nourishment of the spiritual life. If neglected, the spiritual life starves, and the loss of the Vocation is inevitable. Let us ask, in all simplicity, Our Lady to teach us to pray as Jesus taught all the years that He was with her in Nazareth."
Setting up a prayer time
heart prayer

I assume the prayer position, which helps me to be fully present and become aware of my body from head to toe.
I can feel my breath coming and going. So I am completely there, with everything that belongs to me, also with my mood at the moment.
I pray the preparatory prayer—centered on God.
I meditate on the biblical text, the image, (I keep exactly the time that I set out to do)

Diploma

I take a few minutes to talk to God or Jesus about what's on my mind right now.

After the prayer time, I take a quick look back:

How was my mood?
What feelings did I perceive?
What could God want to say to me?
What affected me?
