About MAR Lab

The knowledge acquired during practical laboratory courses is essential for the comprehensive training of any experimental scientist. Unfortunately, not all students have access to this knowledge, either due to logistical reasons, lack of resources, or simply unpredictable situations such as a pandemic.

With the advances of mobile technology and its combination with new technologies such as augmented reality (AR), new opportunities have opened to provide practical experiences to students.

In this project, we developed MAR Lab, a mobile augmented reality application that allows anyone to train and experiment like in a real laboratory!

This first case exemplifies a titration experiment in which the user is challenged to identify between two bottles of vinegar which one has a higher concentration.

This research takes place in the context of the CHARMING project (https://charming-etn.eu).

This app is the dynamic version in which new updates and improvements will be implemented as a result of our studies.

The first prototype was tested with students; you can find the results here: https://pubs.acs.org/doi/10.1021/acs.jchemed.1c00894 and the static link to the first version here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.thesisAR.MARLab&gl=BE

This project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation program under the Marie Sklodowska-Curie grant agreement No 812716.
