The AAA game companies fought for consumers' dollars and attention. Franchises were churned out with no remorse in a mad dash to stay afloat, and polish has become a thing of the past. With the advent and boom of DLC, games were released unfinished, and drip fed to consumers whilst garnering additional profit for "post-release content". Then the AAA's took this madness one step further: Day One DLC. They realized that their unfinished games could be released, with additional content available for a nominal fee...on Day One.
