About Medieval Japan (12th–13th c.)

🗾Medieval Japan🗾 during the 12th-century civil war–the Genpei War. You will unite the country and become the first shogun in history⛩️. The Mongols will come, and you’ll be the force that turns them back. A bright dream and wishful thinking. And then you wake up–starving…😞

You are no one: no home🏚️, no clan👑, no sword⚔️. Your name will be forgotten before a cup of sake empties in the local dive. To avoid ending up in an isekai after a hungry night, you’ll have to work: clean irrigation canals, plant rice ankle-deep in mud, burn charcoal in the mountains, haul salt, unload boats, serve in a teahouse. The longer you endure and the less you argue, the more readily they trust you with bigger jobs and pay a little more. That’ll cover a bowl of rice, a pair of straw sandals, and–if fever doesn’t drop you–enough boards to make yourself a “comfortable” bed and pillow.

There’s another way♟️. At night it’s easier to get a sack of rice than by working in the fields by day. On backroads it’s easier to rob caravans. In port shacks it’s easier to hide contraband. Gather a few just as hungry, and you’ll have a gang. When the local daimyo hears about your antics, he won’t preach: he’ll hire you to burn his rivals’ granaries, lead off their horses, and rob–that is, “collect taxes” from nearby villages. For service they will give you coins, rice, and a piece of land–as long as you’re useful. If you want, blow it on sake and amusements. If you want, invest it: buy warehouses and a workshop where craftsmen will work.

🕓Sieges, winter marches, the smoke of burning villages–this is the straight road to glory that will be forgotten by tomorrow anyway. And you thought you were the only clever one? For loot and a name you’ll storm castles, haul ladders under boiling pitch.

Perhaps between a siege and the next duel you catch yourself thinking: why chase fame or money at all? Today they talk about you; tomorrow they won’t remember. Marry the aristocrat’s daughter, bright and pale as the moon? Or maybe happiness isn’t a crest on a wall, but a warm hand that smells of flour and hearth smoke. A freckled wife whose laugh makes you forget your wounds and stops you worrying about tomorrow’s troubles. A simple bowl of rice porridge that hasn’t gone cold–because someone waited for you.

🧾How to play🧾

You have 3 resources: health, fame and money. Health is needed in order to work and go on military campaigns. Glory is needed in order to get a better job, own buildings and own land. And money is always needed.

Work, buy clothes, weapons and other property. Go on military campaigns, for some of them you will need to hire a lot of soldiers. Save up money, buy buildings and upgrades for them. And most importantly, have fun.
