About Ara
The new altar of the Basilica of Gallarate, a work created by Claudio Parmiggiani, is a complex work, readable with different codes and interpretative symbols.
• An aesthetic code, which, as often happens with contemporary art, mixes both classical and modern languages.
• A historical philosophical language, represented by the variety of faces and underlying stories that have virtuously or tragically crossed the centuries.
• A religious code, which reinterprets symbols of orthodoxy to send messages of spirituality.
The work is therefore much richer than its first visual and emotional appearance.
Starting from this assumption, we asked ourselves the following questions: how to be able to experience this evocative work in an immediate, simple and personalized way? How to ensure that the new generations make this work their own?
With the project presented to the Varesotto Foundation on the Arte & Cultura2020 call, a result valid for co-financing, an attempt was made to answer these questions through the use of smart technology and augmented reality.
An application was therefore created, an App for smart phones or tablets, having as its object the interaction and display of infographics of the altar of the basilica of Santa Maria Assunta in Gallarate, making the user active in understanding the history of the 'altar, through the visualization of information on the religious, historical and artistic significance of the work of art and on the modus operandi of the artist. By allowing individual use, the application fully responds to the needs imposed by the Covid-19 pandemic to ensure ways of using innovative cultural heritage and respectful of the rules imposed for physical distancing between people.
The App simultaneously contains images, texts, videos, interviews, music organized in such a way that the user can choose their own reading path. Interaction and personalization are in fact the last frontier of digital communication that is reaping so much success among young people.
