Nehemiah's book describes Nehemiah's work in motivating the people in Jerusalem to rebuild the walls that protected the city from invasions by enemies. The book also shows Nehemiah's concern to protect the people against another even greater threat, as he acted to eliminate the evil influences that corrupted them from among the Jews.
