Normally, when we think of a baroque palace like the Ludwigsburg Residential Palace, we think of large, bright rooms with sumptuous furnishings. But behind the colorful wallpaper there is a secret door in some places. It leads into the rooms of the servants. Usually these remain hidden during guided tours, as does the world behind the stage of the palace theater, with its upper stage and lower stage. It is one of the oldest surviving castle theaters in Europe with original, fully functional stage machinery. Only on a few occasions is it possible to see this ingenious technique in action, transforming the stage scenery in a matter of seconds.
