The dowsing app is based on the function of a divining rod or a pendulum.
Both are ways of giving you access to your intuition. The app makes use of the so-called Carpenter effect and recorded by motion sensors your involuntary muscle movements for approval or dislike. (Yes / no or negative / positive)
The data is then used to compute a model that will serve future interpretations.
