The SV Westfalia Leer 1945 e.V. is a sports club with about 800 members. Leer is a district of Horstmar.
At present, the football, tennis and recreational sports departments are active in the club. The football department is by some distance the largest division. The first team currently plays in the county league A, the second team in the county league B and the third team in the county league C.

The club was founded on 09.12.1945 as a gymnastics and sports club "TuS Westfalia Leer". The name Westfalia was given in order to reawaken the lost feeling of home among the long-established people and to give the newcomers a new feeling of home.
Literally it says in the foundation protocol:
In this gathering we decide that we will unite to a community that will play and sport to promote the health of all members and to raise the happiness of friends and patrons.
In 1966, the sports club, which is now "SV Westfalia 1945 e.V." was officially registered in the club register.
