La Freissinouse, is a small French village, located in the department of Hautes-Alpes and the region of Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur. The Mayor of La Freissinouse is Mr Gérald CHENAVIER.
The etymology is particularly clear. The name is associated with the Provençal Haut-Alpin fraisse ("ash tree") and designates a place where this tree grows. In the Hautes-Alpes, we find the same root in place names such as Freyssinet, Freissinières, etc. Its inhabitants are called Freissinousiens and Freissinousiennes.The town extends over 8.3 km² and has 849 inhabitants since the last population census in 2019. Surrounded by the towns of Pelleautier, Manteyer, La Roche-des-Arnauds and Gap, La Freissinouse is located 6 km south-west of Gap, the surrounding largest town and capital of the department.La Freissinouse and Gap are bordering.Located at an altitude of 956 meters, the village of La Freissinouse has for geographical coordinates 44° 32' 5'' North, 6° 0' 36'' East The town is close to the Écrins National Park at around 17 km.
