"Radar detector BY" (antiradar) is a free Android application that warns the driver about the photo radars installed in Belarus. The operation of the application is based on the use of the location service (GPS) and the database of the location of photofixing cameras, in addition, recognition of the "Traffic mode control" sign is implemented, which allows you to warn about the installation of mobile photoradars.
The application can work in two modes:
- background, when the screen is on or off with sound and voice warning about stationary cameras;
- mainly in the foreground, using both the location service and the smartphone camera, to warn about fixed and mobile photo radars.
Operation in the basic mode is possible when the smartphone is installed on a bracket in front of the windshield; it is desirable to connect a charger, because when the application is in sign recognition mode, the smartphone operates with increased power consumption. Supports portrait and landscape (recommended, higher performance) screen orientations, split screen and picture-in-picture modes are possible in newer versions of Android.
Switching to the background mode from the main mode occurs when the screen is turned off, as well as by pressing the "Browse" (list of running applications) or "Home" (home) navigation buttons or using the corresponding gesture in Android 10 and higher. Working in the background is indicated by the "camera with flash" icon in the status bar and a notification containing data on the speed and distance to the nearest photo radar. Pressing the Back navigation button or the Close Application button in the notification ends the application.
When approaching a stationary photo radar, the application implements the following types of sound and voice alerts:
- beeper, when approaching the photo radar with a permitted speed at a distance of less than 300-500m (depending on the speed of movement);
- voice message about speed limit and beeper with a high frequency when the speed is exceeded by no more than 10 km / h;
- a voice message about the speed limit and a warning signal when exceeding by more than 10 km / h.
When the “Motion mode control” sign is detected by the smartphone camera in places not indicated in the warning database, the application notifies as follows:
- warning signal at the moments of sign recognition;
- beeper for the time specified in the "Recognized character reminder duration" settings option.
The sound notification is disabled when the location service is active and the driving speed is less than 20 km / h.
Additional features:
- automatic updating of the database of photoradars of Belarus using push notifications;
- background mode with options to reduce battery power consumption:
activity recognition to pause the application when you stop driving,
minimal use of GPS when moving away from photo radars;
- the option to restore the volume level of the notification when the application is launched and monitor the volume level in the background;
- autostart / end in the background when a bluetooth device is connected;
- a map of the location of stationary photo radars;
- saving frames, recording video;
- the ability to save the history of the speed of travel of stationary photoradars;
- import of warnings in the format of the iGo 8 navigation program to add data from other regions.
Working in the background and autorun on smartphones with branded shells, such as Huawei, Xiaomi and others, is possible after disabling the save mode or optimizing the battery consumption for the application. For autorun to work, the app (depending on the Android version) may ask to be whitelisted for battery optimization.
