The radio communication medium was created on October 11, 1967 by Father Julián Lorente Lozano, who saw the need to found this alternative religious medium 54 years ago. He tells us in his autobiography: “By the way, I had been feeling like an inner voice that repeated to me: “Jesus Christ needs a Radio Station”. I felt the Lord's demand clear in such a way that one day I said to Mr. José Coronel, owner of the Emisora Centinela del Sur: “Would you allow me to say this slogan in my weekly program: Jesus Christ needs a station?”
- He told me: "There is no difficulty, because I can even sell you one of the two stations I have." I began to throw to the wind... the message that the Lord inspired me and money began to come to me from simple people and soon it became a reality to have a Catholic Station, which we call "Luz y Vida" and which was paid in cash: 85 thousand sucres, once installed. Being witnesses Mr. José Coronel and the Manager of Banco del Azuay, at that time. I have always said and I repeat:
- "The works of God never sink for lack of economic means, but for lack of dedication to them, for lack of spirit of faith."
It was first installed in the upper part of the Conventual House of the Parish of San Sebastián, but later it moved to the Convent of the Social Missionaries of the Church, where they worked, both as announcers and as radio operators, in addition to needing of lay people by profession, both radio technicians and voice over professionals. Father Julián worked at the station as Director of Programming and led some daily and weekly programs.
This Station has been and is a source of LIGHT for many people who live in error. And source of LIFE because it brings supernatural life through its religious programs.
As its motto says, it is at the service of God, the Country and Culture. It maintains a news, musical, religious and sports programming with a wide audience space in the region.
