The Kalunga people are a black community originally made up of descendants of enslaved Africans who fled their captivity and organized a quilombo, long ago, in one of the most beautiful places in Brazil, the IBGE microregion Chapada dos Veadeiros, in northeast Goiás The whole area they occupy was officially recognized by the government of Goiás as Kalunga Historical Site and Cultural Heritage, an essential part of the Brazilian historical and cultural heritage.
