As a qualified military observer, I represented Brazil and the United Nations in the Bosnian war. Although the mission of a UN observer is diplomatic in nature, everyday life in a country after a peace treaty is not easy. This is because the ceasefire never pleases all the leaders involved in the war and the tension of a treaty break by some group willing to die to defend its position against the treaty is imminent.
