The Ardis Audio Studio presents the novel by Ivan Kondratiev Saltychikha, based on the materials of criminal chronicles of the 18th century. The heroine of the novel is landowner Darya Nikolaevna Saltykova, near Moscow, known for extremely cruel treatment of serfs. She went down in history as one of the most brutal killers, her nickname - "Saltychikha" - became a synonym for inhumanity, a symbol of cruelty and sadism, hiding behind the facade of the "golden age" of the Russian nobility. The investigation proved that the landowner was “undoubtedly guilty” of the death of 38 people and was also “left in suspicion” of another 26 people guilty of death. In 1768, she was sentenced to death, replaced by life imprisonment in a monastery prison.
