Dionysios Solomos (April 8, 1798 - February 9, 1857) was a Greek poet, best known for writing the poem Hymn to Liberty, the first two turns which became the national anthem of the Greek (Greece and Cyprus). The main character of the Ionian school, Dionysios Solomos was and is considered the national poet of the Greeks, not only because he wrote the national anthem, but also because it made use of earlier poetic tradition (Cretan literature, Folk Song) and was the first to systematically cultivate the municipal language and paved the way for its use in literature, changing more level ...
