A poetic collection of Old Norse songs about the gods and heroes of Scandinavian mythology and history, preserved in an Old Norse manuscript of the second half of the 13th century, the authorship of which by some researchers is attributed to Samund the Wise. At the same time, the names of Icelandic skalds are known, who claimed their copyright on the songs they performed. How long they existed in the oral tradition, where and when they arose is unknown.
