De Stemmels is an interactive, hybrid board game for young teenagers that realizes many STEM educational goals. By putting their heads together and using 21st century skills such as critical thinking, collaboration and acting creatively, students can creatively accomplish any STEM mission.
STEM stands for science, technology, engineering and mathematics. STEM education wants to do more than familiarize students with disciplines: it wants to teach students to answer scientific and social questions and to come up with creative solutions to real-life problems. And that's exactly what the Voting Game does!
The Voting Game offers a safe framework within which the students can explore and experiment to their heart's content in small groups. The students all work together towards one common goal: to build a structure that solves the Stemmels problem.
Learning to program using coding cards, discovering the world of the Stemmels through Augmented Reality and 360° views, tinkering with home-garden-and-kitchen materials, that's what it's all about in the Stemmel game. A perfect mix between the analog and the digital world that ensures that students learn to deal with different group dynamics.
The assignments and missions within the Stemmels board game have been devised in collaboration with Technopolis and teachers from the various educational umbrella organisations. They are closely related to the world of young teenagers and contain challenges that they come into contact with on a daily basis. However, you can also add your own missions, making the game endlessly replayable.
