The 'Accessible Sky' application was developed based on a partnership between the Federal Institute of Espírito Santo and the Gaturamo Observatório Astronômico (GOA), an extension project of the Federal University of Espírito Santo.
The product presented was designed from the research project 'The Sky at Hand: A Mobile Application for Accessibility in Astronomical Observatories' and made available as an educational product of the master's thesis 'Heaven for All: Audiodescription as a Learning Resource in Astronomical Observatories' , of the student Ana Carolina Sampaio Frizzera.
Its elaboration brought together professors, administrative technicians, masters and undergraduate students, as well as external collaborators who assisted the team during the development and validation of the application.
The product presented meets the accessibility specifications for visually impaired people, for which the guidelines proposed by the WCAG (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines) were followed.
All sections are compatible with Android integrated audio description (TalkBack), and have their own descriptions of usage and functionality.
The photographs taken in the application are authored by NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration, as well as, the drawing images were taken from the software 'Stellarium' and 'Star Walk 2'. These are adapted with contrast for use by people with visual impairment - low vision.
For this, it is expected that this application can contribute to the visually impaired with access to astronomy-related content, based on the premise that science should be for everyone.
