1.0 - INTRODUCTION
Spotit is an app developed for personal safety during emergency situations. It is a robust and accurate location-informing mobile app that enables users to stealthily inform their loved ones about their current locations, as well as log in their own location information at any point in time. As long as your device is equipped with a SIM card, a GPS and can be used to view maps, you can use this app in it. Spotit primarily utilizes the phone's GPS Location provider: its most accurate location provider. However, when the GPS provider is not available, Spotit will resort to using the Fused or Network provider (or other available location providers) to obtain location information.
Spotit sends location information solely through SMS. ‘Consequently, the app can be used when your device is not connected to the internet. However, an internet connection is required to view the obtained location information on maps. All received location information, including all your logged location information, can be saved in a database in your device; thus any of them can be viewed anytime. Upon installation of the app, it pays to immediately register the phone numbers of your loved ones. You should also select an SOS number from the registered phone numbers: an appropriate SOS phone number is important as it will be handy during emergency situations.
In order to get the best from this app, it requires that all the relevant permissions (on the "App Permissions" page for the Spotit app under "Settings") be granted by the user, and this should be done immediately upon installation of the app. These relevant permissions are: the Location, SMS and Storage permissions. Additionally, the "Access my location" option (on the "Location access" page accessed from the "Security & privacy" page under "Settings") should be enabled. As the app requires the FULL consent of the user, Spotit is therefore not an app developed for espionage.
You can immediately commence test-running of the app by invoking MY LOCATION menu item command. The workings of Spotit are further explained in the app's Help section. This app can be installed in Android devices of version 5.0 (API 21, Lollipop) and above. Spotit was developed by Embedded Semantics.
