The neighbourhood of Łambinowice (until 1945 Lamsdorf), presently the Site of National Remembrance in Łambinowice Opole Voivodeship), since the second half of XIX century, has been marked with tragic history. It was here, on the base of the Prussian, and later German, military training ground infrastructure, were organized prisoners of war camps to where were sent soldiers of many from many European countries (and the world). It had been happening since the Franco-Prussian War, through World War I until the years of 1939-1945, when, there was organized in Lamsdorf, one of the largest POW complexes for the anti-Nazi coalition soldiers. Immediately after the both world wars, immigration camps for civilians were organized here. Remains of the camp buildings and war cemeteries are the only material traces of the past. Substantive care of the place is provided by the Central Museum of
Prisoners of War.
