The coffee industry has been one of the key pillars of Kenya’s economy since independence. The sector has been a significant earner of foreign exchange for the economy and provider of jobs.
Coffee management is a problem for farmers, especially on how to increase their crop yields. Small-scale farmers are the major contributors to the exported Arabica Coffee; therefore, issues such as inadequacy of information on best-farming methods lead to poor farming procedures and low proceeds. Farmers are also limited in their production abilities by poor planning and management of the farm inputs and lack of information on the required quantities for optimum coffee yields.
