Well-known among insiders and yet little known to the public, Aldus (Bassett, 1449 - Venice, 1515) it is considered the first modern publisher: absolute genius and innovator. It is the first, as Roberto Calasso reminds his readers, imagine a publishing house in terms of form. And for "form" is meant not only the selection and order of the titles to be published, but the way the book is presented as an object: the graphic pagination, from the characters to the paper, the introductory texts. Manuzio is the first to conceive the book as entertainment and not exclusive instrument of prayer and study: with the creation of the pocket book Manuzio "invents" the pleasure of reading, a real intellectual revolution.
The book, edited in collaboration with Flavia Paselli and Lavinia Longo counts prestigious texts on Manuzio granted by the publishers: Adelphi, Garzanti, Giulio Einaudi publisher, The Greyhound Publishing and Editions The Polifilo.
The publisher Harmonia Mundi has granted the rights to use the song used as soundtrack, the Odhecaton Petrucci
The publication has also received the support of academic institutions involved: Museums Pio di Carpi, Biblioteca Angelica in Rome, Biblioteca Marciana in Venice, Museum of the Book of the City of Bassett, birthplace of Manutius in 1449 that supported the initiative by giving his patronage.
