Latin is undoubtedly the most long-lived language of the Roman liturgy: in fact it has been used for more than sixteen centuries, that is, since it was perfected in Rome, under Pope Damasus († 384), the passage from Greek to it. The official liturgical books of the Roman rite are therefore still published in Latin (editio typica).
