About Federica Cordero

In my life, since I can remember, I have always loved nature and animals. These are the things that have always intrigued me the most, fascinated me and which, perhaps, I understand better. This propensity of mine has certainly helped me in choosing a profession veterinary doctor. My interest in nature photography, on the other hand, certainly arose from my first trip to sub-Saharan Africa; the first contacts with lions, elephants and rhinos made me want to immortalize them. The first photos were very basic, simple descriptions of the animals I observed. I think I can clearly identify the moment in which my passion took a turn: I was in the Serengeti National Park, in Tanzania. There was a beautiful leopard, lying limply on an umbrella-shaped acacia; unfortunately it was too far away to get the classic photos I was doing up to that moment. Thanks to that leopard and its awkward position, I looked for a way to portray the animals in their environment, avoiding the usual close-ups, and at the same time I realized that I needed more advanced equipment.Since then, slowly, my photographic technique has evolved and it allowed me to change my perspective. Now I portray the behavior of the animals I observe, I try to make the feeling appear or to describe the environment in which they live. Certainly at the moment my goals are two: to demonstrate that there is art in nature and that the laws that apply to its must not submit to human judgement. I hope to improve more and more to achieve my intent and to transform this passion into my official job.
