The Division of Fine Arts was founded in 1971, but it was in 1992, after períodode deactivation which effectively started its activities under the coordination of Professor Helena Maria Di Cavalcanti Mello, being successful soon after (even in 1992) by Professor Maria Carla Guarinello of Araújo Moreira, who was the one who drew the profile of the Division, setting goals and guiding axes of the shares in accordance with proposals of contemporary art. According to Maria Carla "... from the beginning, we had the concern not to turn our actions in specific and espetacularizados events. We chose to invest in projects that would enable the understanding of the visual arts as a legitimate and possible knowledge process. We understood that this knowledge is dynamically built from visualities, sense and trial and thought the Division as a space where the identity projections could be constantly redinamizadas.

The exhibits were seen as a possibility to multiply aesthetic experiences for both artists and the public that visit. "

Basing these proposals, the work of the Division of Plastic Arts of the UEL the Culture House made Londrina a center of discussion and production of contemporary art, bringing important artists (such as Alfredo Volpi, Iberê Camargo, Lasar Segall, Antonio Dias, Waltercio Caldas, Mira Schendel, Carlos Zílio, Artur Barrio, Iran do Espírito Santo, Rosângela Rennó, Nuno Ramos, Iole de Freitas, Carmela Gross, Leda Catunda, Paulo Pasta, Marco Butti, Élida Tessler, Marco Gianotti, Lygia Eluf, Eliane Prolik, among others ) and critical (as Rodrigo Naves, Lorenzo Mammi, Sonia Salztein, Tadeu Chiarelli, Paulo Reis, Fernando Cocchiaralle, Sergio Sister, Ricardo Basbaum, Annateresa Fabris Silvio Zamboni, Aracy Amaral, among others), thus fulfilling the role of bridge between the knowledge produced here and in different parts of the country.
projects were carried out (exhibitions, conferences, workshops, round tables, meetings with artists, workshops, mediation, courses, internships, study groups, interventions, book launches, among others), which strategically approached the public to artistic production, involving professionals (artists, students and art teachers), offering a space for exchange of experiences and experiences.

Different approaches: drawing, painting, installation, photography, video, object, performance and their derivations interdiciplinares had space and effective presence in the spaces occupied by the Fine Arts Division.

The intimate connection with the course of Visual Arts allowed over the years to question the relationship between research, art and science, which ends by stating a specific type of knowledge.

This work has intensified with changes over the years, always based on the seriousness and commitment to the precepts of the division, establishing connections with other areas of knowledge and providing space for discussion and new proposals.

Still commitment of the Division of Plastic Arts constant updating in line with contemporary art production, which implies a constant attention to the risks involved in considering the moment as the moment actually happen phenomena which must be considered relevant. In this sense of urgency, projects, curatorial and mediations that create contamination territories between the languages ​​are developed, which allow the repertoire and vocabulary are also updated and thus establish the profile of the Fine Arts Division, which between museum and gallery art, is established as a center for discussion and production of contemporary art.
