The Institute DIET (Distt. Institute of Education & Training) Nabha Distt. Patiala was established in 1953. The main purpose behind the formation of this Institute by PEPSU Government (Punjab and East Punjab States Union), to trained teachers. At the very beginning, short time courses were started for the teachers to enhance and educate basic concepts of teaching.
After sometime JBT (Junior Basic Teachers Training) Course was started at this institute. In 1957 the JBT Course became two year Teacher Training Course. In 1970 due to the excess of trained teachers the Government of Punjab had decided to with held JBT Course for some time. During that period once again short courses were started for in service teachers on monthly basis.
In 1973 once again the JBT Classes were started in the Institute which remained operational up to year 1980. After that for the period of next ten years this institute worked as a training institute for in service teachers of Distt. Patiala, Distt. Sangrur and Distt. Fathegarh Sahib. The in service teachers from these Districts took ten days refresher courses on various aspects of quality teaching.
During session 1989-90 this JBT Educational Institute was upgraded to Distt. Institute of Education and Training by the Government of Punjab which is commonly abbreviated as DIET Nabha. A two years ETT Course for Primary Teachers starter in 1990 in this Institute, which is known D.El.Ed Course, still functioning and two Hundred Students per session are getting training for this course. This institute is also providing training under SSA Scheme and Refresher courses for the primary and upper primary in service teachers.
From the early period of establishment to the modern era this institute proved itself for providing quality education, enhancing educational values and co curricular activities related to modern needs of society. This institute has trained thousands of student teachers and in service teachers and make a firm space in educational field of State Punjab.
