The evidence of the walimah al-haml tradition can be seen in the hadith of Muhammad Ismail al-Bukhari in Sahih al-Bukhari (Beirut: Dar al-Fikr, 1422), juz IV, p. 111, hadith number 3208:
قال: إن أحدكم يجمع خلقه في بطن أمه أربعين يوما, ثم يكون علقة مثل ذلك, ثم يكون مضغة مثل ذلك, ثم يبعث الله ملكا فيؤمر بأربع كلمات, ويقال له: اكتب عمله, ورزقه, وأجله, وشقي أو سعيد, ثم ينفخ فيه الروح ، ...
"In fact, every person among you is created in his mother's stomach forty days in the form of a germ, then becomes a clot of blood, (forty days later), then becomes a lump of flesh during that time (the next 40 days). Then he sent him an angel, breathed the spirit on him, and commanded him to write four things; the provisions of his fortune, the provisions of his death, the provisions of his deeds, and the provisions of woe or happiness ... "
