The municipality of Pylaia-Hortiatis participates as a Partner in the project entitled: "Sustainable Eco-Cultural Valorization of Mines and Quarries Sites in the Cross-Border Area" - "Terra-Mine" , which is financed within the European Cooperation Program INTERREG V-A "Greece - Bulgaria 2014-2020".
The corporate structure of the project is coordinated by the Municipality of Madan (Lead Beneficiary) and also includes as beneficiary partners the Municipality of Pylaia - Hortiatis, the Democritus University of Thrace (Department of Production and Management Engineering), the International University of Greece (Department of Business Administration) and the University of Mining and Geology "St. Ivan Rilksi".
The overall objective of the Terra-Mine project is to preserve and exploit the old mines and quarries of the cross-border area for tourism purposes, strengthening cooperation between local actors, as well as enhancing their skills.
As part of the project, a mobile application was developed for Android and iOS operating systems, using beacons and QR codes on a plexiglass base, which have been installed in areas near the quarry area, giving users the following possibilities:
• to digitally browse the quarry area of the Municipality of Pylaia – Hortiatis,
• choose the destinations they want to visit,
• create routes to recommended tour points
• to obtain information about points of interest
combining the most innovative interactive tools such as virtual reality and augmented reality.
With the co-financing of the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF – 85%) and national resources (15%) of the countries participating in the Cooperation Program INTERREG - V-A “GREECE - BULGARIA 2014 - 2020”.
