The Association of Indonesian Advocates (PERAD BERSATU) was introduced to the public, especially law enforcement circles, on 7 April 2005 at Balai Sudirman, South Jakarta. Apart from being attended by no less than 600 advocates from across Indonesia, the introduction of PERADI BERSATU was also attended by the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Indonesia, the Attorney General of the Republic of Indonesia, and the Minister of Law and Human Rights of the Republic of Indonesia.
According to Article 32 paragraph (4) of Law Number 18 of 2003 concerning Advocates (Advocate Law), Advocate Organizations must be formed within two years of the enactment of the law. Many parties doubt that advocates can meet the deadlines stipulated by law. In fact, within about 20 months since the enactment of the Advocate Law or to be exact on December 21, 2004, Indonesian lawyers agreed to form PERADI.
