*IELTS READING*
There are 3 major challenges in the Reading section which are:
1. How to match Headings
2. Distinguishing between *FALSE* and *Not Given*
3. How to locate answers in a passage fast because of time.
MATCHING HEADINGS
Here some headings look like the answer but they are not. If a Heading has a word that has nothing to do with a particular paragraph that heading is not the answer.
For instance:
We have a heading
NUTRITION & COOKING
Then a paragraph talks about Nutrition but doesn't say anything about COOKING then *Nutrition and cooking* cannot be it's Heading, in this case you look for a Heading that is related to *Nutrition*
Also, a Heading cannot be chosen twice since there are always more Headings than Paragraphs.
Another challenge in Matching Headings is when a Heading looks like the answer to say Paragraph 1 and Paragraph 3. In this case read the two paragraphs very well to know which of them talks about that Heading more.
*TRUE, FALSE, and NOT GIVEN*
You declare a statement as *True* if it is in line with the information in the passage, declare it as *False* if the statement is a contradiction to the passage, that is opposite of what the passage says, and declare as *Not Given* if the passage says nothing about that statement.
*Illustration*
If the passage says fowls lay eggs and a statement says fowls do not lay eggs, this statement is *False* but if the passage did not tell us whether fowls lay eggs or not then this statement is *Not Given*
*Locating answers in a passage*
To locate answers from a passage use the keywords in the question and start searching from *Paragraph 1* if you find the keywords anywhere read from full stop before keywords to full stop after keywords. When you find an answer to *question 1* search for the answer to *question 2* slightly beneath and you keep going down searching for answers, only go up if you can't find the answer on your way down.
ASSESSMENT CRITERIA FOR WRITING
1. Spelling
2. Punctuation
3. Diction (word usage)
4. Coherence
5. Neatness of work(paper based IELTS)
6. Grammatical accuracy
