First mentioned in 750 as a bailiwick "Ebilizdorf" in Franconian empire and visited by emperors and kings in the 11th century, there are many indications that the place is of central importance. Located on the important trade route "Long introduction to the Hesse village circular route", there was a royal farm in Ebsdorf. Located in the Mainz area until the 13th century, the Vogteigericht Ebsdorf became the property of the State of Hesse in 1335. After the Thirty Years' War, Ebsdorf then developed into a market town. The current town center was built around the churchyard with impressive Franconian farms and smallholder houses. The richly decorated and today lovingly restored half-timbered houses remained undamaged even in the Second World War
