Edad de Oro

The Golden Age was a monthly magazine for children, written by the Cuban José Martí with the purpose of inciting in the little reader the search for knowledge, the love for the great Latin American homeland, the devotion for justice, truth and beauty; speaking to children in a universal language that knows no time or distance, which is why it maintains its freshness and validity to this day.

The first magazine that was published in July 1889, had 32 pages; It contained stories, essays and poems that exemplarily show Martí's humanism and idealism, in addition to beautiful engravings and illustrations. The universality of the human values ​​that they reflect reaches us through a wide spectrum of topics and eras covered.

In his dedication Martí wrote: “The Golden Age is published so that American children know how people lived before, and how they live today (…) This is what we want the children of America to be: men who say what they think, and say it.” well: eloquent and sincere men.”
