About WUG 2023

The 2023 FISU World Student Games will be held in Yekaterinburg from 8 to 19 August 2023.

Before that, Russia hosted the Summer Universiade twice: in 1973 in Moscow and in 2013 in Kazan. In 2019, the country successfully hosted the first Winter Universiade in Krasnoyarsk.

International competitions among students have been held under the auspices of FISU for more than half a century, every two years - in summer and winter.

Students between the ages of 18 and 25 and graduates who have received an academic degree or diploma in the year preceding the competition are eligible to participate in the competition.

The program of the FISU World University Games includes 15 mandatory sports approved by FISU, and no more than three sports of choice, which are determined by the host country.

The sports program of the Games in Yekaterinburg will include competitions in 18 sports. 247 sets of medals will be played.

For the first time in the history of the Games in Yekaterinburg, a new FISU project will be implemented - an art program that includes competitions in 3 art categories - music, dance and public art.

Around 800,000 guests and fans, 11,500 athletes from over 150 countries and 2,600 universities are expected to attend the 2023 FISU World University Games in Yekaterinburg. 11,000 Russian and foreign volunteers will be involved in organizing the Games.
