This application aims to facilitate English teachers to teach in the classroom using a text-based approach better known as SFL GBA (Systematic Functional Linguistic Genre Based Approach). Through SFL GBA, students are expected to learn language skills such as reading, writing, listening and speaking thoroughly. This approach can be practiced at all levels of education from elementary, middle, high school to university
The teachers will get a brief and concise explanation about SFL GBA consisting of:
• Related concepts regarding SFL GBA;
• Steps for implementing SFL GBA in class;
• The type of text taught;
• How to assess students' ability to present texts through oral or written.
Through the SFL GBA approach based on text and literacy, with intensive and comprehensive reading and writing activities, students are encouraged to develop critical thinking skills. An ability that is very urgent to be developed in Indonesia today. Although focusing on teaching English, the concepts and steps in this application are very relevant to other language teaching.
Text Based Teaching Application is the essence of the book Text Based Approach in Emi Emilia's English Language Teaching. The author teaches at the English language education and undergraduate program, University of Education Indonesia. Currently, the author acts as the chairman of the UPI English Language Education Study Program. The author has written Writing Thesis and Dissertation (Alpha Beta, 2008) and Teaching Writing: Developing Critical Learners (Rizki, 2010) and writing Together Prof. Furqon Quantitative and Qualitative Research: Some Critical Issues (Rizqi, 2010).
