The Watten card game is played with a simple French or Bavarian hand. Each Watten round begins with 20 points for the individual players and ends as soon as a player has reached or fallen below 0 points. The player who reaches 0 first wins the game. Each stitch counts one point. If HEART was chosen as trump, each trick is worth 2 points.
Each player initially receives three playing cards. The dealer determines the trump. After that, each individual card player can exchange any number of cards. After all playing cards have been exchanged, the game begins. The player who determined the trump suit plays the first card. Then, in turn, all players must play a card that conforms to the rules. There is a color and stitch compulsion. The critical cards are the highest cards in order: King of Hearts, Seven of Bells, Seven of Clubs. The player who wins the trick must play the first card next. The game is played clockwise.
