Dennis Rudolph (born 1979) is a concept artist who works in the fields of performance, video, painting, graphics and writing. In many of his works, the artist refers to art historical models that he interprets in a contemporary way.
In his most recent works he combines painting with virtual and augmented reality (VR, AR). Dennis Rudolph started working with virtual reality software in 2017 to create immaterial forms. The medium allows the artist to paint three-dimensionally, which enables movements and special effects, which in turn have an influence on the oil paintings. Painting in digital space has changed its type of analog painting, so that an exchange between analog and virtual space becomes visible.
The work ARTIFICIAL_GODS_Eurydike 6 in the Museum Ratingen shows an abstract image that is transferred to the plastic by this app. The work of art is present and absent at the same time. In the installation by Evangelos Papadopoulos, the virtual body of Eurydice grows out of the image. A digital, virtual layer is created on the smartphone that corresponds to the analog installation.
