This collection of songs (only lyrics, no score or audio files to avoid copyright violations) might seem like a tribute to the past, a world far from our current way of life, today frenetic and more focused on interest and personal gain than on maintaining the values of the people who preceded us. For those who know how to listen to them, they are beautiful songs, melodious and surprisingly full of history and humanity; tell stories of the tradition of our popular soul, of our countries, of our valleys, bringing the listener into a fantastic journey on love, solidarity, faith, respect, sacrifice, love of country, accompanied by melodies now sad and solemn, now cheerful and carefree. Many of these songs were born during the past war events, mostly interpreting thoughts, stories, experiences of the people of the valley with their own load of humanity and tradition, clashed with the dramatic reality of war.
The Corpo degli Alpini has made its own the customs and habits of our mountain people, forming over the years a precise mentality of life and values, allowing the birth of a simple style but full of the meaning of people, of community. The Alpine people are loved by people for an infinite number of moral reasons and for the spirit of body that has always distinguished them, for their free commitment to volunteering, but also for their famous cantatas that have immortalized the most significant moments in the life of the our véci.
They are not only alpine and mountain songs; given that nowadays in the immense repertoire of the many choirs there are more and more places also adaptations to popular songs of their own region or "imported" in the face of cultural exchanges with choirs from other Italian regions or even foreigners, I considered also to include (part) of this great singing heritage. You will then find songs in Friulian dialect, Vicenza, Bergamo, Valle d'Aosta, Marche, Neapolitan, and gradually up to Russian, German and French songs. Other songs have been inserted, even if not strictly "Alpine", from the singing experience carried out during my military service in the Tridentine Alpine Brigade Choir.
In fact, the title "Voices from the mountain" does not indicate the beauty of the peaks, but rather the presence of hearts that sing in the shadow of the valleys: people who, gazing at the ecstasy of snow-capped peaks in the sun, express their happiness with their songs, too reliving the stories of your country and its districts. Therefore the purpose of this collection is an attempt to keep some of this immense repertoire alive, since only by remembering what we have been, what we have done and suffered, what we believed in, can we be helped to understand better ourselves, giving us the opportunity to better face our future, having in our history severe warning of moral and civil education.
This task will not only be for those who already know how to sing, but for anyone who will take this collection in hand, since even the most deaf heart does not remain insensitive to the humanity of these songs ... because the heart can sing even without audible notes
... And it is the most beautiful song ...
